Tom has been a tremendous asset to van Zelm since 1992. Before assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer, Tom served as V.P. of Operations. He has been a Principal of the firm since 2000. Tom is a specialist in the design of systems and infrastructure for the pharmaceutical sector, demonstrating a unique ability to immerse himself in the requirements of clients whose projects are conducted under occupied conditions and in which critical corporate processes are ongoing. Tom has over twenty-five years of project management experience involving new construction, renovation and retrofit. Tom's experience also includes the preparation of studies, reports and designs for commercial, industrial, educational and health care clients. 
Prior to being named President and Chief Operating Officer, Steve served as Vice President and Principal for nine years. Steve has extensive project management and design experience for facilities including colleges/universities, public and private schools, hospitals, office and historic restoration projects. As Principal-in-Charge of the firm's Mechanical Department and Information Technology Department, Steve has developed and maintained oversight of van Zelm's in-house technical education and training for van Zelm's engineers and technical support staff. This program has proved instrumental in maintaining van Zelm's cutting edge performance in the rapidly evolving field of designing mechanical and electrical systems for the built environment. 
Dave brings his clients over twenty years of professional experience in new and renovated buildings in a number of sectors including colleges & universities, science and laboratory facilities, and performing arts centers. Vice President and Principal since 1993, Dave focuses on the unique needs of the client to ensure each project's successful conclusion. Bob has been with van Zelm since 1994, becoming a Vice President and Principal in 2003. A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's School of Engineering, Bob has extensive experience in the study and design of various infrastructure systems involving ventilation, heating, air conditioning, plumbing and fire protection systems as well as Direct Digital Control and pneumatic control systems. A specialist in the Hospital and Healthcare sector, Bob is also well versed in the systems requirements of commercial, industrial, and academic facilities. 
Bill
Cosgrove attended the University of Connecticut at Storrs after
serving for four years in the U.S. Navy. Upon graduation with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Bill became a partner in
a residential construction firm for the next three years. Bill
started his employment at van Zelm Heywood & Shadford, Inc.,
as part of the management team for a wholly owned subsidiary called
Coordinated Systems. Bill ran the finance department of Coordinated
Systems, and also handled project management responsibilities.
Coordinated Systems eventually evolved into a valuated reseller
for computer systems before it was sold in 1988. Bill stayed on
at van Zelm, assuming the duties of Comptroller. He was promoted
to Principal in 1989.
Ed is a Principal and Team Leader at van Zelm. Prior to joining our firm, Ed was principal of a small consulting practice in CT where for 9 years he managed engineering activities and served as Principal-In-Charge for a majority of that firm's projects. Ed has a broad background in engineering design and construction practices for both mechanical and electrical systems. He is also a 
Joe's approach to Consulting Engineering comes from hands-on experience gained as an Engineering Officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine and U.S. Naval Reserve, and from experiences in power plant construction, startup, and O&M. He holds a Power Plant Chief Engineer License from the N.I.U.L.P.E. and a U.S. Coast Guard Engineering Officer for Steam, Diesel, and Gas Turbine. Past President and current Director of the Connecticut Power and Energy Society, he sits on the ASME New London Section Executive Committee. Prior to van Zelm, Joe served as Principal of an engineering consultancy focused on central utility plants and distribution networks for electric, steam, hot and chilled water, as well as large power station rehabilitation. 
Susan is a Senior Associate and the Director of Marketing for van Zelm. Susan’s background includes construction management and industry environmental regulations as well as business development. She holds a B.A. from Vassar College and a Master’s Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Susan serves on the Industry Advisory Board of the Central Connecticut State University Construction Management Department. She is an officer on the Hartford Advisory Board for the ACE Mentor Program, and Vice President of the Connecticut Chapter of Professional Women in Construction. She is a past president of the Hartford Chapter of NAWIC, The National Association of Women in Construction. 
Craig joined van Zelm's Power and Utilities Group in 2005, and was named Associate in 2006. He has over seventeen years experience in engineering and construction management positions for thermal and power systems. All of Craig's positions and projects have been related to energy efficiency, infrastructure, and operational improvements, or a combination thereof. He holds a BS from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and an MS from RPI. Craig is also a licensed Professional Engineer and a licensed U.S. Coast Guard Chief Engineer.
With over fifteen years at van Zelm, Scott has extensive experience science & laboratory, and in colleges & universities, and healthcare facilities. Named Associate in 2007, Scott manages a design team within van Zelm's Academic Practice Group. He also assists with the oversight of the Mechanical Department. Scott holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University and is registered as a Professional Engineer in multiple states.
Bruce joined van Zelm in 1993, becoming an Associate in 2001.
A graduate of Hartford State Technical College and Albertus Magnus
College, Bruce has extensive project management experience that
includes new design, expansion and renovation for all types of
facilities. He is particular well-versed in the special systems
requirements for healthcare and higher education. Bruce is the
Director of van Zelm’s
North Carolina office. 
Paul joined van Zelm in 2003, becoming Manager of Energy Services in 2008. He has extensive experience in energy engineering, facilities management, HVAC design and analysis, construction management, distributed generation applications, green building design and renewable resource utilization. Paul offers strong energy engineering and facilities management experience, knowledge of restructured electric markets and an enduring commitment to the principles of sustainability. Prior to his current position, Paul served as Director of Energy Services for the Connecticut Energy Cooperative, where he implemented energy conservation and renewable resource development efforts for the member-owned energy cooperative operating as a licensed electric supplier of green power in Connecticut. Paul was also Director of Utility Services at the University of Hartford, where he had oversight of campus operations and maintenance for 10 years. Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. 
Bill has been with van Zelm since 1998, becoming Manager of Commissioning Services in 2008. He has extensive experience in building facilities management and building automation systems. Prior to joining van Zelm, Bill worked in the healthcare sector, serving as a project manager and director of engineering. Bill teaches classes in commissioning and retro commissioning through the Construction Institute Center for Professional Development at the University of Hartford. He is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers and is a Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP).
