Berkeley Building Renovations
Boston, MA
Before renovating the thirty story Berkeley office building, van Zelm prepared a Master Plan Study to assess the existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure and its integrity and capacity to support the proposed upgrade and to accommodate the new data processing, computerized control systems and electrical distribution systems.
The renovations to all office spaces and service areas were coordinated in seven construction phases over an accelerated five-year period while the building was partially occupied.
Mechanical and electrical design and upgrade included the rehabilitation of an under floor electrical duct system, computer/CRT illumination, expansion of DDC (Direct Digital Control) building automation system, conversion to VAV and an addition of an ice storage system for additional capacity and economic operation. |
