Garde Arts Center
New London, CT
The
historic Garde
Theater was designed by Arland W. Johnson, Architect. This
adaptive reuse project included the expansion of the entire ground
level of the office/retail spaces along State Street.
The lobby
was transformed by the creation of a tall atrium open to the entire
four floors adjacent to the mezzanine lobby. The atrium is enhanced
by decorative indirect lighting. New spaces include an event hall,
catering kitchen, toilet rooms and concessions. The 2500 seat,
proscenium style theater was given an upgraded sound system. The
third and fourth floors house new office space. At street level,
the box office and retail storefronts were reconstructed to replicate
the1920 style canopy and vertical marquee. |
