Darien High School
Darien, CT
The new Darien High School was designed to “Promote a sense of place, a place where students and staff want to be, a place which generates pride throughout the community.”
The 325,653 SF facility serves an enrollment of 1300 students. The school’s common spaces, including the main lobby and auditorium, hold up to 1500 people when necessary, to accommodate attendance at public events.
Curriculum disciplines are housed in separate buildings connected to each other by spacious, daylit corridors and walkways. The Core Classroom building is a three-story structure designed in a semi-circular arc. The Core Classroom building faces a greenscape crisscrossed with curving pathways and punctuated by specimen plantings. Other buildings in this unique complex include the Library/Administration building, the Auditorium, the Health building, the Science building and a Gymnasium structure that houses a Main Gymnasium as well as a Multi-purpose Gymnasium. With the exception of the Gymnasium, all the independent buildings offer views of the greenscape - which provides a vital connectivity within the High School Complex for the benefit of its students and faculty. |
