Bushnell Performing Arts Center – Belding Theater Expansion

Winner of multiple design and project team awards, the new second theater situated next to the 70-year-old, historic Bushnell Auditorium includes administrative offices, banquet space, education and meeting rooms, a café, gift shop, bathrooms, and a multi-purpose performance hall with seating for 906. The new theater design integrates the existing architectural esthetics of the original auditorium. The facility has a full stage house, fly loft and orchestra pit with a full complement of backstage support spaces. The stage and wing spaces are also appropriate for dance presentation. The flexibility of the flat floor space will allow functions ranging from cabaret-style entertainment or catered receptions and sit-down dining to large meeting sessions. The theater includes a system of lobbies and public spaces that link the new building to the lobbies and circulation areas of the existing Bushnell Theater, promoting a unified image and supporting the operational ability to control audience access to the various facilities. The ceiling mural, created by Evergreen Studios of New York City, provides a dazzling modern interpretation of the original Hall’s sun, moon, and stars Art Deco motifs.
