University of Massachusetts – Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences Addition

This project consists of a new facility between 100,000-120,000 GSF that will be connected to the existing UMass Computer Science Facility, including an additional 8,000 SF of backfill renovations between the new CISC and the Lederle Graduate Research Center (LGRC) Building. The building program includes common space and offices for both graduate and undergraduate students, administration, and faculty. Collaboration spaces include meeting rooms, a 250-seat auditorium, and various classrooms. The building will also support design and creativity through the large maker space, research laboratories, and specialized labs for sensors and robotics, providing much-needed space for the growing UMASS Computer Science Program. Mechanical and electrical building systems will be all new, with a focus on high efficiency systems and independent energy production. This project will include a ground source heat pump plant and local geo-well field to provide an efficient and carbon neutral source of heating and cooling for the facility. The project has an estimated total project cost of $125,000,000, with an estimated construction cost of approximately $94,000,000. Design started in May of 2022 with substantial completion of the new addition scheduled for November of 2024, and completion of the backfill spaces by July of 2025.
